From the north, wet snow blows across the field. Snowflakes stick together, large crystals—heavy in-flight, layer upon layer frosting the grasses. Pine boughs bend, nodding in the wind. Voices carry in the silence.

I wrote this haibun Idyll for #TankaTuesday where we’re using kigo words for inspiration. This week, I used cold clouds, sense of space, and star winter storms.

  3. So evocative! I feel like I’m in that wintry, snowy landscape, Colleen.

(I understand that star winter storms is one of the kigo words/phrases, but I’m not sure I understand what it means. 🙂 Maybe that’s just me.)

    1. You know I get these kigo words from the 24 Seasons.org website. I didn’t listen to their podcast, but I suspect winter star storms have to do with the placement of the stars called the winter circle. I liked the term, so I used it. I haven’t seen stars in months. LOL! Lake Michigan gives us lots of gloomy skies in the winter.

      1. I don’t think we’ll see stars for a few nights. I did see Venus yesterday morning hanging out with the moon. 🙂
