“In Square Peg in a Round Hole,” we meet Robbie Cheadle, who wears many hats! She’s a Chartered Accountant, wife, mother, artist, writer, poet, photographer, and blogger. I enjoyed learning more about this author’s busy life.
In this book, Robbie Cheadle shares photos of the different animals from South Africa, including her extraordinary drawings and paintings. The poems that accompany the photos often explain the many aspects of the animal’s life.
There are also photos and drawings of flowers and birds, all native to South Africa. The poetry that follows each image gives us a deeper glimpse into the wild beauty of a country many of us know little about. What a fun way to learn more about South Africa!
It is under the section called, Life, where we learn more about Robbie, the woman. She writes about her children’s health challenges, along with some health difficulties her husband and other family members have faced. Her poetry is poignant and will grab you in the heart.
Make sure to look for the amazing section of ekphrastic poetry written by Robbie with photographic contributions by Wayne Barnes, photographer.
I was excited to see a section of poetry written by Michael Cheadle at the end of the book. It’s good for young people to confront their feelings through the written word.
