Sunday Stills: Pets & Grand Babies

I’m not much of a photographer, but when I saw Terri Webster Schrandt’s Sunday Stills for this week, I had to join in.

Terri says:

โ€œThe Sunday Stills weekly-themed photo challenge is easy to join. You have all week to share and link your post.

  • Remember to title your blog post a little differently than mine.
  • Please create a new post for the theme or link a recent one.
  • Entries for this theme can be posted all week.
  • Tag your post โ€œSunday Stills.โ€
  • Donโ€™t forgetย to create a ping back to this postย so that other participants can read your post.

Sunday Stills

Chloe and Sophie are my Unicorn Cats! We found these girls at the East Lansing Cat Cafe. They were a bonded pair. Chloe is three months older than Sophie, and she had adopted Sophie as her baby. The two are a few years older now, but they get along well. Typical for cats, one minute they’re kissing, and the next they’re batting at each other.

Chloe & Sophie: the first year
It’s mine! No! It’s mine!

Chloe is my husband’s cat. She cuddles with him every chance she can.

Chloe: fell asleep with her tongue sticking out!

Sophie is a tortoiseshell cat. This breed has unique personalities. They are usually one person cats. Sophie is attached to me, although she loves my husband too. I’ve never seen a cat who doesn’t like people at allโ€”only her people. If the doorbell rings, Sophie crawls between the comforter on the bed and hides.

Sophie: My scaredy cat!

Here is my oldest granddaughter, Alexandria, holding my great-granddaughter, Oakley.

And just for fun, here’s a photo of one of my peonies!

And here’s a kimo, which is a tristich poem with a (10/7/6) syllable count.

Lovely verse and images. We had fun when my grands and great nephews were playing together. ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. One relative has a type of photo frame that the daughter can send photos to. The only draw back is that the end up out of order. But still it is nice. We used to have something similar, but you had to up load photos… and well that never did quite happen.

  2. I have seen cats like that before, in fact Iโ€™ve had one. A girl also. Iโ€™ve never seen it due to a breed, though. Thatโ€™s interesting. I donโ€™t know a lot about tortoiseshells, just that males are extremely rare, like unicorns!๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for sharing the beautiful pictures of your family!โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

    1. Thanks so much, Melissa. Torties are shy. The males are usually not right in the head. They have a chromosomal abnormality. Sophie is my second Tortoiseshell. I love them and they’re very loyal. Chloe is too, she’s a gray (blue) tuxedo cat. We love them both. Did you get the new kitty?

      1. We did! Did you get an email from me? I sent you one and it seems to have disappeared. I sent a picture of the cat.

  5. I’m so happy to see your post, Colleen! Your cats are adorable and full of personality–how lucky you all are to have each other. How wonderful to see your daughter and granddaughter–Oakley– what an amazing name! Maybe a rebel in the making ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. My granddaughter is the spitting image of me when I was younger (my daughter looks like my ex). Oakley looks like my baby picture too, the same as her mother. Genetics are so funny! Thanks for letting me share. I appreciate you! ๐Ÿ’–

      1. How wonderful, Colleen! I looked a little like my grandmother, when she was my age as a teenager. Genetics often skip a generation. You’re always welcome to hop into Sunday Stills when it works for you and I’m very glad you did ๐Ÿ™‚

        1. I’ve read it’s not unusual for granddaughter’s to resemble their maternal grandmothers. My daughter has long dark hair and looked like my ex who was part Seminole. My oldest daugher and my son look like my side of the family (light hair and skin). When Alexandria was born we were all laughing. She looked like my side of the family! It’s a good feeling to see your genetics move through your decendants. LOL!

  6. Lovely photos and verse, Colleen!

We have never seen my mother-in-law’s cat. Even when my husband stayed with her when she had surgery. She only comes out for her, and usually on in her bedroom.

We had a long-haired tortoise shell cat. She was not shy, but she did believe we were all intended to serve her.

    1. Merril, my first tortoiseshell wasn’t shy either. But she was choosy about who she liked. Sophie and Chloe came to our shelter from Georgia. Who knows what they encountered along the way. My husband says he thinks Sophie is afraid any visitors in our house are coming to take her away from us. That’s why she hides. Both cats were almost four months old when they found us. Our cat cafe allows you to go inside with the cats. Chloe chose Ron immediately. Sophie was hiding in a cat bed, but she let me pick her up. It took her a long time to feel safe. We’ve always loved cat personalities. ๐Ÿ’–

    1. Thanks so much, Mich. She is a cutie. She had to have surgery at a week old. Her heart was reversed, and she had a hard time getting oxygen from her blood. The surgery was a success, and she’s grown like a weed. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’–
